(Current) Narrative:

Some Imagination Needed

You're a scientist named William, who's currently on the run, cracking the code to interdimensional travel... almost. You can't travel yourself, but you can bring other versions of yourself from other dimensions, anywhere from time, to come and help! Use your 'clones' as stepping stones for you to make it safely across narrow gaps and treacherous pathways, learning and leveraging the ability that you just created!

Made by two college students; William and William. This build was implemented over the course of two weeks we brought the concept and Prototype to life for our Games Prototyping Course at University.

Notable Issues:

  • The screen shift that happens when exiting a room can be called multiple times, but the current build will trigger a hard-coded direction off-setting the camera too far to have the player or platforming visible. Please refresh the site if this happens.
  • There are no checkpoints currently and about 7-8 completed rooms; there is no 'end' as of right now but the framework for timing and further levels are also in place.
  • BUTTONS: Simple Animation Timer is called whenever you press a button, so you can very easily stall/offset animation positions fairly oddly? I showcase this a bit further in my demonstration video.
  • Timer just disappears off screen immediately (That CanvasLayer isn't properly following the camera, whoops).

Thank you for taking the time to check out this project and engaging with it as you have! If you have any criticism or feedback we'd love to hear it! <3

Reflections
William:

  • Is it representative of the core loop you wanted?
    • Yeah I'd say so, messing around with the clone is pretty integral to the gameplay while not being too convoluted.
  • Did it give you an answer to the question you posed, and if so, what is the answer?
    • Yeah I think something weirder like clone mechanics and time manipulation can absolutely work if executed well and made easy to understand
  • How would you change it, if at all?
    • I'd change the camera system to work better with the clone.
  • Where would you take the idea next?
    • Probably let the clone do more and add more time manipulation mechanics like letting the clone affect the passage of time nearby.
